A lot depends upon the kind of intelligence - crystallised knowledge (stuff you were formally educated in) versus fluid knowledge (common sense, street smarts, the ability to think on one's feet, emotional intelligence) etc.
I would like to think that most people have both, though even the best educated people don't always have a lot of common sense. Common sense is often treated as second class, and maybe the richer and more educated people need to get out more.
I am probably just as guilty of being 'too smart' for my own good - having been from a middle class background and trying to do the right thing. This makes me look like a goody-two-shoes in a sea of rebels, who often don't understand why I may be the way I am and will make fun of me :/
On the other hand, if I am with people of an upper class, and I dare express an opinion that is different and they accuse me of being ignorant because I don't follow certain trends. I also haven't got a hope in hell with that either.
But either way, whether I am smart or dumb, rich or poor, educated or not - what I do know is that when people treat me like I have no class, then I won't respect them because they will get my back up.
And that's my story and I'm sticking to it :)
Cheers,
Night Owl
