I found this article and made this post on my Facebook profile. It is about a young boy in the USA who was out shopping with his father and older brother. This young lad wanted a video game (and console) which would be considered as 'suitable' for a girl, the big brother agreed to let him have it. However, the father saw that he wanted it and hit the roof. He was about to give the younger boy a hiding until the older brother stepped in and said it was it was his own money and he could buy whatever he liked for his younger sibling. I would also take my hat off to the older brother for sticking up for this little boy.
I liked Western movies when I was a child and Heavy Metal music as a teenager, but I don't think that makes me any less of a lady than another girl who just liked 'pretty' things. And I'm not 'gay' either, but that doesn't mean I can't be understanding gay people (as long as they also do the right thing by others).
I knew boys that didn't mind 'girl's stuff' and they still turned out okay (whether they were 'gay' or not) - at least they didn't end up on drugs, or as alcoholics, or wife bashers etc. And they turned out to be the nicest guys that I knew.
And one of the things I was taught, was that being a 'man' or a 'lady' is not simply being obviously 'masculine' or 'feminine' but having manners, respecting yourself and others, being a law abiding citizen, helping others in need and generally being the 'best person you can be'. And wanting a purple console doesn't necessarily make one gay or even a 'wimp'.

However, the *wimpiest* people I knew were those who would pick on someone who couldn't fight back; those who could 'dish it out but not take it', and (just as bad, if not worse) those who stood by and let the target or victim cop all the shit without stepping in and helping. To me, they are bigger WUSSES than anyone I knew that looked like a 'sissy' because of how they looked on the inside.
from a *female* who doesn't always conform to gender stereotypes herself :)
