Because the world is apparently a 'safe space' for men, not for women or LGBT folk....
I agree that while women have to still endure wolf-whistling and 'cat-calling', not all men are safe from violence either.
It is obvious that this young lass, used to her 'safe space' culture on university, has not heard of places like Matt Talbot shelter for (mostly) homeless men (at Woollomooloo), or Oddessy House in Kings Cross(for drug addicts). Yes, there are places which give shelter for the homeless, but not 'safe spaces', however. Then there is the Manly Women's Shelter, specifically for women. And probably a number of youth refuges.
Yet, if this girl were to suffer domestic abuse or rape or any other similar gender-based violence (not just wolf-whistling or other unwanted 'compliments'), she would most definitely fall apart.
If she were to be harassed or bullied in the workplace, or suffer an injury, she would not last. Her 'hurt feelings', her rights (apart from the rights given to her as a worker), her opinions - they would not matter. She would be up against real bullying, and real harassment.
It doesn't mean she hasn't been a victim in the past. For all I know, she could have been sexually harassed at school, or bullied, or ostracised. Or, alternatively, she could have drawn attention to herself like she was during this speech and thus attracted negative attention from her peers (who have to listen to the same-old, same-old from them every time).
I don't know much about Karen Straughan just yet, but to blindly accuse her of being a 'rape apologist' is just plain wrong!!! Just like Triggly Puff called Christina Hoff Summers a 'rape apologist. It not only encourages women to overreact to relatively minor situation (which, in turn, cause them to be ignored in the future), but it plays into the idea that women are 'emotional'. It also muddies the waters for women who have genuine problems (and some men too) - real problems like domestic violence, rape, and bullying. And gay people. And Trans.
And in the meantime, real perpetrators continue to get off scott-free, and (rightly or wrongly) this feeds into those people who continue to be 'politically incorrect' with their jokes (who, otherwise, would have their brand of humour just run its course - I am talking about people like Milo Yiannopoulis, Paul Joseph Watson and most of all, Donald Trump, who are popular with the Alt Right) - but now, thanks to the SJW's, now have more than ever!!!
Anyway, maybe we should just try not to laugh at the SJW's because that is only going to reinforce their victim mentality.
cheers,
Night Owl
